Every year, Medicare has an open enrollment period for all Medicare members. The Medicare enrollment period opens October 15 and runs through December 7. During this time members are able to select a plan from available plans in their state. Plans will be effective from January 1 through December 31 of the next year.

Open enrollment is the time to review existing plans to decide if a change is in order.
